I certainly hope that doesn’t happen. I have to wonder if the DNC has thought through all the implications of its support for Hillary. Once you’re seen blatantly favoring a candidate, going so far to confiscate the other campaign’s voter data, then your candidate better win. What happens if that candidate loses?
One of the major arguments behind support third-way type candidates is that, even if the base doesn’t agree with them, the Republican Party is simply too dangerous. I can think of few candidates on the current political scene as dangerous as Trump. What happens if the Democratic Party shows its incapable of protecting America from the madman? Trump has already called for mass deportations, closing mosques and registering Muslims. I expect that we will see, explicitly or implicitly, calls for resegregation and use of nuclear weapons on the Middle East before the campaign is over. If the party elite anoint a candidate to combat the madman, and that candidate fails, it would seem that the existence of the Democrats as a valid political party — and not as some form of toothless “official opposition” party — is called into question.
I would simply urge everyone to think about what comes next. If Hillary loses then, assuming that the party is not declared illegal in some form of fascist legislation, it would seem that we need a crowdsourced effort aimed at changing the internal leadership of the party.
But I will say this, if Hillary loses in the general it will not because my support for Bernie kept me from turning out to vote for her.
