It isn’t about hate, it isn’t about terrorism, it is about the economy. The Trump phenomena is an indication that things have become so severe that Americans are willing to turn to hate as the only force in the political process more powerful than vested corporate interests. What Trump supporters see is their own desperation. For the first time since the second World War the middle class is not a majority in America. The slow decline of the middle class, and worsening of conditions for the working class, has convinced many voters that the traditional political process is unable to deal with their pressing needs. Trumps statements show him as apart from the traditional process. No amount of criticisms of his racial statements is likely to stop this man. Polling might show Democrats in the lead, but Democrats have a tendency to drop substantially in the polls after the primary when the media hounds their candidates.
The only way to combat Trump is to convince Americans that substantial economic changes will happen soon that will make the lives better. We are talking reform on the scale of the New Deal, not a middle class tax cut that gives more to the wealthy.
Of course vested interests will stand in the way of this. All I have to say is that if Wall Street thinks fascism will spare them, then they haven’t been paying attention to the history of fascism. In the end Jewish millionaires as well as Jewish peasants went to the gas. Perhaps its time for the Masters of the Universe to reflect on where all of this is going.
