Let me put this as simply as I can: If the Democrats Will Not Fight for the Dreamers then Hispanic voters will boycott the next election.
If Democrats don’t fight for the Dream Act we don’t win NV and we don’t win AZ and we certainly don’t win Tx. That means we don’t take control of the Senate, and we hand Trump a second term. if you will not fight for Hispanic voters they won’t show up for you. If you think you can abandon Hispanic voters and get through with African American votes I have news for you — you kick Hispanics under the bus and African Americans are going to figure that they are next. So surely the Democratic Party will fight for the DREAM act, well not so fast. According to the Washington Post:
Democrats are backing away from a pledge to force a vote this month over the fate of thousands of undocumented immigrants brought to this country as children, angering activists but likely averting the threat of a government shutdown at a critical moment in spending negotiations with Republicans and President Trump.
With a deadline of midnight Friday to pass spending legislation, dozens of Democrats had vowed to withhold support if Republicans refused allow a vote on a measure known as the Dream Act that would allow roughly 1.2 million immigrants to stay legally in the United States.
But a group of vulnerable Democratic senators facing reelection in conservative states next year aren’t willing to go that far — meaning the party is unlikely to muster the votes to block the spending bill.
“We’ve got to get it done, but I’m not drawing a line in the sand that it has to be this week versus two weeks from now,” said Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), who faces reelection next year in a state that Trump won by more than 18 points. Other Democrats facing similar head winds echoed that sentiment, including Sens. Joe Manchin III (D-W. Va.) and Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.). Trump won those states by 42 and 19 percentage points, respectively.
My message to Sens. McCaskill, Manchin and Donnelly is simple: you are traitors to the party. Your actions risk suppressing critical minority voters costing us both your seats and others. You both clueless as to the repercussions of your actions and unfit for the offices which you hold.
Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) is seeking a second term in a state that is home to about 13,000 DACA recipients — and hundreds of thousands of federal employees whose livelihoods are at risk during government shutdowns.
“I will exercise every bit of leverage I can for the Dream Act, but if there is a vote that would lead to shutdown, that’s where I draw the line,” he said.
My message to Tim Kaine is simple, this party has given you much. Your statements have shown that Hispanic voters could expect to have been betrayed should Clinton have won. You have hurt the brand of the Democratic Party and hurt every Democrat running in this country.
What I’m calling for is simple:
If your state has a Democratic Senator call them and let them know that you will not volunteer and will not donate unless they fight for the Dream Act. If you are a party official, be you a precinct chair, county chair, SDEC member, DNC member, State Chair or something else, let the party know that you believe that breaking our promise to force a shutdown fight over DACA is politically suicidal. If you are a large donor, call the party and let the know, no action on DACA no money.I realize these are dangerous times and we feel like we must protect ever seat, but we also must win in 2020. Democrats promised to force the DACA issue, if we fail to honor this promise and Dreamers get deported it will a betrayal so profound that it may be impossible for a Democrat to win the presidency for a generation.
