Al Franken Is Trying To Keep My Kid Alive

My son has Type 1 diabetes.  That mean’s his pancreas no longer produces insulin.  Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease. The immune system destroys insulin producing cells.  Neither weight nor diet cause Type 1 diabetes.  It cannot be controlled with diet, prayer, herbs or any other pop treatment.  Without insulin injections it is 100% fatal.  My son needs insulin injections at least three times a day to stay alive.  Without insurance insulin pens costs about $1000/month.

My son is covered by CHIP.  We live in Texas.  Letters are scheduled to go out December 1 letting parents know that the program has been terminated and that they have 30 days to find other insurance.  Currently, the ACA website will not allow an individual her qualifies for CHIP to signup through the exchange.  The current administration is unlikely to fix this.  Even then, we are talking medical expenses around $500/month.  We’ll pay it, at least until we run out of savings.

Al Franken supports restoring CHIP funding.  He may have had inappropriate conduct with someone.  He’s working to keep my kid alive.  He holds a swing seat, one we may not be able to hold onto in a special election.  Every Republican in the senate means that the chances that CHIP funding gets restored goes down.

I’m sorry to say it but as long as Senator Franken is working to keep my kid alive, I really don’t give a d&*n who he groped.  When the Republicans stop trying to kill members of my family and deport my neighbors, I’ll start caring about such things again.
